Lake Information for Whitehall Pond

Map:
Description:

This 25-acre pond is located in the Rutland State Forest off of Route 122 in Rutland. The average depth here is about seven feet with a maximum of about 12 feet. Aquatic weeds are common, especially in the shallow southern section. Water milfoil and bladderwort are the most abundant of a number of weeds present.

This attractive pond with fine swimming and picnicking facilities offers a good opportunity for family or group outings.

Facilities and Parks:

Car top boats and canoes can be launched off Whitehall Road, but be aware that no motors are allowed. The entire shoreline is open to fishing, except for the beach area during the summer months.

Fishing Description:

Whitehall is stocked annually with trout, and the best trout fishing is during the months of April and May. Other gamefish present in good numbers are largemouth bass and chain pickerel. Bass are concentrated where good cover in the form of downed trees and weed beds is found, while pickerel are most common in the weedy southern basin. Panfish are common with good sized yellow perch and bluegills providing plenty of action and good table quality. Ice fishing for perch and pickerel is reputed to be excellent here.

A 1982 summer survey indicated a warm water fish population composed of rainbow trout, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, yellow perch, black crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseeds, brown bullhead, white sucker and golden shiner.
