Lake Information for Bare Hill Pond
Located in the Town of Harvard about one mile south of the center, this 316-acre pond supports a diverse fish population.
Unfortunately, the shoreline is highly developed with private cottages and year-round homes, severely restricting access for the general fishing public. The town-owned access site located on the northeast shore is in excellent condition with parking available for about 10 cars. However, this access is closed to all but Harvard residents during beach use dates.
The fish population was most recently studied during a 1981 summer survey. Ten species were collected including: white perch, yellow perch, pumpkinseeds, bluegills, largemouth bass, brown bullheads, chain pickerel, black crappies, smallmouth bass and golden shiners.
Survey data indicates a good population of largemouth bass and chain pickerel present, but smallmouth bass numbers are inconsistent. One obvious problem here is an overabundant, stunted white perch population. No significant fisheries management can be considered, however, until improvement of access for the general public is secured. Meanwhile, ice fishing seems to be the best bet for the out-of-town angler, and some good catches of largemouth bass and yellow perch have been reported.
